First Honda Fit EV Enters the U.S. Market

Staying true to its quick-product-launch plan, Honda unveiled the 2013 Honda Fit EV at the 2011 L.A. Auto Show and has already delivered its first production version of the model.

The lucky owner is the municipality of Torrance, Calif., also home to Honda's U.S. headquarters. Technically, the first Fit EV is part of a test program to get real-world feedback before the model's official on-sale date this summer.

The 2013 Honda Fit EV is an all-electric vehicle that's solely focused on poaching potential Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi i and Ford Focus EV customers.

Like the Focus EV, the Fit EV is based on its gas-powered cousin, but there are subtle styling changes (such as the absence of a front grille vent) that distinguish the model.

The Fit EV has an average expected range of 76 miles and can get a full charge in as little as three hours on a 240-volt charger.

"Contacted the dealership via the instant messenger. I got Andy's number and called Houston. Told him I would be traveling 140 miles to come down and look at a car, asked if they had inventory of 2012 Accord, V6. He said yes and asked what color I was looking for. Told him I was unsure. I liked that he didn't ask me for a phone number, address or what I wanted to spend. He didn't ask for any other personal information, wasn't pushy. I liked that a lot.

We traveled down the next day. Got there around 2:45 p.m. We met Andy and he showed us several different cars. We decided to get the accord with the navigation since they open to working on the price. I don't buy based on payment and told him as much. We sat down and looked at the numbers. Not sure since it was 12/31, but they came off the sticker price a good bit. We went back and forth on the trade in. I probably should have pushed back more but I can't complain on the trade in. It was 11 years old with 159K plus miles.

Santos worked really well with us in the finance. Janet also was very helpful with some title issues on my wife's trade in. I will warm you though to watch the extended warranty if you get it. On the paperwork it was $300 more than it should have been. But Santos fixed it and I chewed on Andy's rear end about that. Fred Laber and Andy spent probably 30 minutes showing my wife all the toys and how they worked. By 7 p.m. we were on the road home. It has been 10 years since I bought a new vehicle. Overall the experience was very good. I busted Andy's rear as much as I could and he was a good guy with all of it. I have no problem recommending these guys to anyone." -jbevie1960

The Salesperson, Jon Moore, Finance Manager, Ami Tran, Finance Director Janet Cousins and General Sales Manager, Jack Carney, General Sales manager all demonstrated quality customer service. It was evident that the Finance Director had over 30 years of experience that added to an effective financial presentation and agreement. Each person spent quality time with me and made every effort to answer all of my questions and address any concerns. I appreciated the effort of Jack, as the General Sales Manager to acknowledge me as a customer and ask how I was feeling about my experience during the process.

I was presented with options to address unique issues that included a thorough explanation allowing me to make an informed choice. I have received multiple follow-up e-mails to confirm that I was pleased with the experience with encouragement to ask any additional questions. As a college level professor who emphasizes the value of customer service to students I will use my personal experience to enhance the learning environment for students across the nation.
